Mississippi State University Department of Art Professor Marita Gootee received several recognitions in聽the International 19th聽 Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers.
Gootee received three honorable mentions聽in the Professional Alternative Processes' single image category for her series titled Last Contact. She was an award winner and recipient of two honorable mentions in the Professional Cellphone single image category.
Juror Barbara Davidson, a Guggenheim Fellow and three-time Pulitzer Prize award winner, selected Gootee鈥檚 photography.
鈥淭his is very exciting for me to receive the top award for my cell phone photographic work,鈥 said Gootee. 鈥淚 use my cell phone to capture life around me every day. It is my camera for street photography. When I see something interesting, I just have to record it.鈥
